Naples Luxury Cruises

Viking · Premium and upper-premium lines

Researched, not sailed yet

Viking is the adults-only, no-casino line where every cabin has a veranda and the fare includes one excursion in every port, Wi-Fi, wine with meals and speciality restaurants. Its top cabins are the Explorer Suites and the Owner's Suite. Viking's ocean ships call at Fort Lauderdale on Caribbean and Panama Canal sailings in winter. Kathryn has not sailed Viking and says so.

Explorer Suites and the Owner's Suite

  • Every Viking ocean cabin has a veranda, so the suite tiers buy space and priority, not a balcony.
  • Explorer Suites are two-room suites with a wraparound veranda and priority booking for excursions and restaurants.
  • The Owner's Suite is one per ship, with a dining room and a private sauna.
  • There is no private lounge, restaurant or pool. Viking treats the whole ship as the quiet area.

What comes with it

  • One shore excursion in every port
  • Wine and beer with lunch and dinner
  • Speciality restaurants, Wi-Fi and the spa's thermal suite
  • Priority reservations for Explorer Suites and above
  • Laundry on the ship, self-service, free

From Florida

Viking ocean ships start or end Caribbean, Panama Canal and South America sailings at Fort Lauderdale in winter. Viking also runs its river ships in Europe and elsewhere, which do not touch Florida.

The ships

Viking Vela · Viking Saturn · Viking Mars · Viking Neptune · Viking Venus · Viking Jupiter · Viking Orion · Viking Sea

Scandinavian and quiet. Light wood, a Nordic spa with a snow grotto, lectures instead of production shows. Nobody under eighteen.

Who it fits

  • Couples over fifty who want a calm ship and included excursions.
  • First-time cruisers who dislike the idea of a casino and a crowd.
  • Travellers who want to sail Europe or the Canal on the same brand they used on the river.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Families. Children are not allowed.
  • Suite guests who want a private area. Viking does not build one.
